Great News: Chicago Bears unveiled Greg Roman as New OC..

Chicago Bears continues to widen, and for the first time, they interviewed a candidate that doesnโ€™t come from the Shanahan/McVay coaching tree. Peter Schrager of NFL Network revealed they met with former Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman. He was the one who ran the offense that helped Lamar Jackson win the league MVP in 2019. This comes across as the first candidate to make one think the Bears are seriously considering the idea

Roman has extensive playcalling experience going back to his time with the San Francisco 49ers. Heโ€™s gotten productive seasons out of Colin Kaepernick, Tyrod Taylor, and Jackson. If the Bears were considering the idea of sticking with Fields, it would make obvious sense to look at Roman. Few have gotten more out of dual-threat quarterbacks in this league than him. His reputation is one of establishing elite rushing attacks that take full advantage of a QBโ€™s mobility. However, he also has a stigma of not being able to maximize the passing attack, particularly with wide receivers.

Chicago Bears may have noted Romanโ€™s infatuation with Fields.

The former coordinator went on SiriusXM NFL, where he gushed about the quarterbackโ€™s vast potential. He sees somebody with a chance to be special. Maybe the Bears simply havenโ€™t found the right coach to get it out of him. No doubt Roman has a ton of expertise on the subject. He got results everywhere heโ€™s been, and with quarterbacks who arenโ€™t nearly as gifted as Fields. The one issue is it would be a considerable scheme shift, meaning Fields would have to learn a new system for the third time in four years.
