New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers did not suit up for Thursday’s joint practice against the Washington Commanders in Florham Park.
Head coach Robert Saleh gave no prior indication that Rodgers would sit out the competitive session, but the weather and field conditions may have played a role in the decision to give a rest day to the 40-year-old field general.
The playing surface is presumably slick from the heavy rains that have blanketed New Jersey over the past 48 hours, and the forecast is not projecting an immediate improvement from the overcast skies and misty conditions.
Seen wearing a raincoat and athletic pants, Rodgers, who has worked his way back from Achilles surgery, had not missed a practice since training camp kicked off two weeks ago. The four-time NFL MVP has been free of limitations this summer and claims to be back at full strength.
Still, there doesn’t seem to be good reason to expose Rodgers to any potential accidental contact from opposing players on a slick surface.
