PITTSBURGH — The Pittsburgh Steelers and quarterback Russell Wilson reportedly spent hours talking about a potential fit between the two and leaving their meeting, the chances he signs with the team are seemingly growing. Heading into the meeting, league sources told All Steelers there was a “40 to 45% chance” Wilson signed with the Steelers. Now, according to Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Gerry Dulac, there’s a “better than not” the two sides reach an agreement. “So I think what is certain is that both sides want to meet, and if I had to guess, I would say there’s a better chance than not,” Dulac said on the WDVE’s Randy Baumann Morning Show. “That might be 51-49 [percent chance], but there’s other factors involved here, so I’m not gonna sit here and say, ‘Yeah, it’s going to happen.’”
Dulac says the only thing really standing in the way is the possibility that Wilson gets a higher offer elsewhere. “So long as somebody doesn’t jump in with some stupid deal, like three years, $15 million. Look, Russell Wilson comes in for a veteran minimum and you get him cheap, you can backload the second year of the contract,” Dulac said. “The Steelers wouldn’t give him any more than a two-year deal…if it doesn’t work out after Year 1, you get rid of him and it doesn’t cost you a penny.” Wilson has visited with the Steelers and New York Giants to this point, and could continue to meet with teams before free agency. As of now, the chances he signs in Pittsburgh are growing, and with their meeting going swimmingly, the Steelers may be his next team sooner rather than later……
