Leeds United could be looking at having Junior Firpo back in the matchday squad for this weekend’s vital clash against Ipswich Town.
The Whites host second-placed Ipswich Town this Saturday knowing that anything but a win puts a huge dent in Leeds’ chances of clawing their way into the automatic promotion places this term.
Daniel Farke has food for thought when looking at his squad after two sub-par performance against Sunderland and Coventry City.
Leeds have been perennially short at left-back in the last three seasons due to Junior Firpo being the key option, struggling to stay fit for any sustained periods.
His latest setback was a hamstring issue cropping up after the Whites brushed Swansea City aside, where he played for 10 minutes off the bench only to suffer another injury.
LeedsLive have now shared the latest from the Leeds injury list, to which Firpo could be back this weekend, as they write:
“The defender has only figured three times this season. His last outing came as a late second half substitute in the Whites’ 3-1 victory over Swansea City on November 29.
“But Firpo has recently returned to full training after recovering from his hamstring problem. Left-back has been a problematic position for United for some time. Tottenham loanee Djed Spence has started there in the past two fixtures.
Left-back appears to be the bulk of Leeds’ headaches right now with virtually every natural or backup option out currently:
It would be very naive for any Leeds fan or Farke to get ahead of themselves and look at how Firpo can factor into our side.
Whenever we think he’s about to become an important player, he suffers another setback, and that’s been the story of his time here.
Our situation would be so much better if Firpo could stay fit, but that just isn’t going to happen any time soon.
