I’Marion Stewart, a wide receiver for the Wolverines who announced at the OT7 event in Los Angeles, committed to Michigan on Friday.
Stewart, a 6-foot-1, 180-pound rising senior who played his first three seasons at Bolingbrook, is now a member of Chicago Kenwood and the 20th pledge in the Wolverine class. He rejects offers from Wisconsin, Colorado, Georgia, Texas A&M, Miami, Florida, Oregon, and other places in favor of them.
Stewart gave his explanation for his commitment by saying, “First of all, it was the feeling I get from Michigan.” It always felt like home, that’s how I felt there. Not only did they establish a bond with me, but also with my parents. Every day, they would drop over to see how we were all doing. Coach Moore
Although Stewart has visited Michigan almost 10 times and has contacts with some of the team’s Illinois locals, such as Tyler Morris and J.J. McCarthy, it was a more recent trip that really cemented it for him.
“It was presumably related to my most recent visit in the spring. That was the cause,” he declared.
Stewart not only connected with the staff, but he also loved their plan for him and how they intended to employ his abilities.
“So they compare me to Roman Wilson, so they show me lot of plays where they give him ball off the run, short pass game, deep pass game, show me how they get the ball in his hands,” Stewart explained. “They have a lot of different ways to get the ball to him and let him make something happen and they match my skill set with his.”
Stewart has been to Michigan for games and has witnessed the sight of Michigan Stadium when it is packed. Now he’ll get to gear up and put on the winged helmet in front of that throng. Even though he finds that fascinating, things are still operating as normal at the end of the day.
But despite the large number of people, it’s still the same as what I’m used to. I don’t think about all those people too much. It’s simply a different vibe, but I’ve been doing this for 12 or 13 years, so it’s nothing new.
He probably had 950 receiving yards this year in addition to returning kicks and punts, according to former Bolingbrook head coach John Ivlow, who worked with Stewart for three years. “He’s probably the best punt returner I’ve ever had; he’s amazing.” He will break that first tackle even on kickoffs. When several men attempt to take him down, he will either bounce off his thighs or truck them. Look out if he can gain an additional 15 pounds before the start of the next season.
Stewart is rated as a high three-star by 247Sports with an 89. The 247Sports Composite rates him as a four-star. He is ranked No. 7 in the state of Illinois and No. 27 among wide receiver recruits in the 2024 class by The Composite.
