Two university officials told ESPN that head coach Jim Harbaugh and the Michigan Wolverines received an accusations notice from the NCAA that will look into possible recruiting infractions that happened during the COVID recruiting dead period.
According to an ABC News piece, Harbaugh is accused of lying to NCAA investigators or failing to fully comply with them in addition to the initial allegations notice. Derrick Crawford, vice president of hearing operations at the NCAA, addressed the denial of these claims in the same article.
“The Michigan infractions case is related to impermissible on and off-campus recruiting during the COVID-19 dead period and impermissible coaching activities — not a cheeseburger,” NCAA vice president of hearing operations Derrick Crawford stated in the statement, alluding to the oversimplified portrayal of the violations in some media reports. “It is not uncommon for the [committee on infractions] to seek clarification on key facts prior to accepting. The COI may also reject an NR [negotiated resolution] if it finds that the agreement is not in the best interests of the Association or the penalties are not reasonable,” Crawford said in the statement.
