Kevin Durant, a top player for the Phoenix Suns, praised Jalen Brunson after his 50 points helped the New York Knicks pull off an unexpected victory.
The star player for the Phoenix Suns, Kevin Durant, didn’t seem to mind that Jalen Brunson outperformed him during Friday’s record performance at Footprint Centre.
Brunson scored a career-high 50 points on 17 of 23 field goal shooting, including a flawless 9 of 9 from beyond the arc to equal an NBA record, in the visiting New York Knicks’ 139-122 victory. By the end, even the highly skilled Durant was in wonder as his Suns lost to the Knicks in the 18th-ever 50-point game in franchise history.
In a video sourced from the Arizona Republic’s Duane Ranking, Durant stated, “That’s his franchise.” “They’re all there to help him and make sure he’s in the greatest possible position to complete his career as a member of the Hall of Fame, given the way he’s performing. He’ll be there in no time if he continues in this direction. However, they all lend him a hand—they make up scenes and conduct plays for him. Tonight was one of those nights for him because they keep getting him the ball when he gets hot.”
Brunson finished with a career-high 50 points on Friday in addition to six rebounds, nine assists, and five steals (a personal best). This was just another instance of the 27-year-old point guard playing up to the high standards set for him by his $104 million contract. If he can maintain this level of play, Brunson will undoubtedly make it to his first NBA All-Star Game.
The next opportunity for Brunson to make an impression is on Monday night when the Knicks (14-11) play their home game against the Lakers (10:30 p.m. ET, MSG).
