Grayson Allen reached 3,000 career points in the second quarter of tonight’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Allen, who entered tonight’s game sixth in the NBA in three-point percentage at 46.2%, cashed home a corner three with 7:49 left in the first half on an assist by Kevin Durant to give the Suns (20-18) a 44-43 lead to reach the feat.
This is Allen’s sixth NBA season and 298th career game. In his first season with Phoenix after being acquired in the Deandre Ayton trade, the Duke product has thrived, averaging 13.2 points and 4.2 rebounds in 33 minutes per game, starting all 33 of the games he has played in.
The Suns got off to a slow start against the short-handed Blazers (10-28), trailing by as much as seven in the first quarter, but have now started to pull ahead. Riding the momentum of a 13-0 run midway through the second quarter, the Suns lead 71-61 at halftime
Allen is tied for the lead in scoring on the Suns at 15 points with Devin Booker. He has gone a perfect 3-of-3 from deep (and overall) and 6-of-6 from the free throw line. Allen also has two blocks.
