Moore still needs to hire a defensive coordinator, but he did hire Jay Harbaugh’s replacement to coach the special teams as J.B. Brown was elevated from special teams analyst, a job he’s had since the 2021 season to special teams coach.
Another move expected to be made by the Michigan Wolverines is the addition of Steve Casula as tight ends coach, according to a report from The Wolverine. Casula spent two years on the Michigan football staff as an offensive analyst before spending the past two seasons as UMass offensive coordinator under Don Brown.
Adding Brown on special teams makes a lot of sense. Michigan football players said he had a key role behind the scenes sort of like Kirk Campbell and the offense in 2022 when he was an analyst.
Friday turned out to be a buy day for Sherrone Moore and the Michigan football program as the Michigan Wolverines made three staff announcements.
The first move announced was probably the most important as Moore and Michigan football announced that Kirk Campbell would take over as the offensive coordinator. He will also continue to coach quarterbacks.
As it stands now, the Michigan Wolverines need to hire a defensive coordinator, a linebackers coach, and a safety coach. They will also have an extra opening since Campbell will coach quarterbacks. There has been no official word on running backs coach Mike Hart, D-line coach Mike Elston, or secondary coach and co-defensive coordinator, Steve Clinkscale.
