Pittsburgh Steelers Linked With Russell Wilson
With that being said, talks about Wilson’s potential next team has intensified. While he has struggled in the past couple of years with the Broncos, he remain a reliable QB who can start in the NFL.
Wilson is expected to be released in March and become a free agent. This comes after the Denver Broncos decided to bench him in their final few games of the 2023 season following a reported disagreement in the guarantee triggers of his deal.
The veteran QB–who signed a $242.5 million contract extension with Denver in 2022–has since revealed that he expects to be gone from the team before those guarantees take into effect.
Interestingly, the Steelers have emerged as favorites to acquire him once he’s made available. In fact, Pittsburgh’s odds to sign Wilson increased from the initial +1400 to -110 as of Saturday, suggesting that it’s a high possibility, via NBC Sports.
Brady Quinn Wants Russell Wilson With Pittsburgh Steelers
what it’s worth, it’s definitely an intriguing prospect to see the Pittsburgh Steelers and Russell Wilson to pair up. Wilson needs an established system where he can thrive, and Pittsburgh needs a QB with championship experience who can very well elevate them from a middle-of-the-pack team to title contenders.
While Fields could be a nice long-term choice, his lack of playoff experience and success at the highest level could be concerning. Hence, Wilson could be a better choice when it comes to the Steelers’ short-term goals.
Former NFL QB-turned-analyst Brady Quinn recently shared his belief that Wilson is a good fit for the Steelers, noting that everything is set up in Pittsburgh to help him recapture his superstar form.
