The Cleveland Cavaliers’ rhythm was off on Thursday night against the Orlando Magic and this led to a lot of sloppy basketball both on offense and defense.
Jarrett Allen made no excuses for the way his team played.
“It’s on us,” said Allen. “We had 17 turnovers and that’s unacceptable for what we’re trying to do. Just mental errors. It was a lot of just throwing the ball out of bounds. I know I had a couple where I just lost the ball, it slipped. We were just all making mistakes.”
Cleveland committed 18 turnovers against the Magic. Orlando took those miscues and turned them into 28 points helping them secure the victory. Like JA said, a lot of these turnovers were unusual mistakes that the Cavs rarely make.
Allen also mentioned that the Magic did a good job of speeding up the game and getting physical with the Cavaliers making them uncomfortable throughout the night. This uneasiness may be another reason that the Cavs made so many miscues.
The scouting report is out on the Cavaliers’ new-look offense and Orlando showed that. JA said “A lot of teams are going to pressure us on the defensive end. They’re going to make us work for our buckets.”
With that being said, Allen also mentioned that their loss to the Magic was a “great test” which only helped them grow in the final 28 games before the playoffs.
Next up for the Cavs are the Philadelphia 76ers who snapped their nine-game winning streak just a week and a half ago. This will be another great test for Cleveland in what a playoff matchup may look like.
