NORTHBROOK, Ill. — The American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced Tuesday morning that Tennessee redshirt senior tight end Jacob Warren is one of 136 nominees for the 2023 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team.
The Allstate AFCA Good Works Team was established in 1992 by the College Football Association, recognizing the extra efforts made by college football players and student support staff off the field. AFCA became the governing body of the award in 1997 and continues to honor college football players who go the extra mile for those in need. Allstate worked to present the award starting with the 2008 season.
A five-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, Warren hails from Knoxville and elected to return for his sixth and final season with the Vols in 2023. He represented Tennessee on the 2022 SEC Community Service Team and was nominated for the Wuerffel Trophy last fall after showing tremendous leadership on and off the field.
Warren was instrumental in the planning, promotion and logistics of the Knoxville Area Rescue Ministries (KARM) Coats for the Cold drive this past winter that provided thousands of people in need with cold-weather gear for the upcoming winter. He also has bettered his community through work with the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital, the Wesley House Community Center and Love Kitchen, where he organized various types of food, sorted donations and cleaned floors, stairs and seats in their auditorium.
He is also heavily involved with his church, regularly volunteering his time at church events and other activities. Warren volunteered at the Boys & Girls Club through a church program, led Bible studies and engaged with kids by playing sports and making crafts.
In April, Warren was tabbed to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society for his efforts in the classroom. He earned his undergraduate degree from UT in kinesiology in May 2021 and is currently pursuing a Master of Science degree in agricultural leadership, education and communication.
Since joining the Vols in the fall of 2018, the local product has played in 41 games with 20 starts. Warren enters his third straight year as a starter at tight end and boasts career totals of 37 receptions for 416 yards and four touchdowns.
The final 22-member AFCA Good Works Team will be selected by a voting panel of former Allstate AFCA Good Works Team members, current and former head coaches and journalists. After the team is announced in September, fans can vote for this year’s Allstate AFCA Good Works Team captain through the official page on ESPN.com/allstate.
Five Vols have been selected to the AFCA Good Works Team six times since the award’s inception, including offensive lineman Bubba Miller (1995), quarterback Peyton Manning (1996, 97), placekicker Jeff Hall (1998), punter David Leaverton (2000) and linebacker Kevin Burnett (2003).
