Ask Aamir Hall to describe his college football journey in one word and the response you’ll almost certainly get is “surreal.” From the humblest of beginnings to his commitment to Michigan last week, FCS All-American has to pinch himself when thinking about how far he’s come.
“Initially I had a very low recruitment out of high school,” Hall said, recalling prep career at Baltimore (Md.) Mount Saint Joseph. “I had a couple of military FBS offers and very few FCS offers. I went with Richmond after coming out of high school and it was a really good experience going there and being able to play very early and solidify myself. So that was really dope.”Then came his first transfer portal experience, one that saw him step into a prominent role for an FCS championship contender at Albany.
“(It was) the opportunity to really better myself and put my best foot forward,” said Hall. “I knew that if I could come in and just set a team up (for more success), I would be able to do something very special. And I saw the opportunity at Albany where the coaching staff just needed another player that would really be that piece so that they could be something very special.”
That’s exactly what the Great Danes were last year, achieving an 11-4 record and a trip to the FCS semifinals. That paved the way to another trip to the portal, with the intention of stepping up to the FBS level. Several suitors tossed their hats in the ring, but Michigan was by far the most prominent. The moment the Wolverines showed interest, Hall’s destiny seemed set.
