Nearly a decade has passed since Josh Heupel last stepped foot on Owen Field. In less than four months, though, the former national championship-winning quarterback and Oklahoma assistant will return to where it all began — this time on the visiting sideline.
As part of Oklahoma’s inaugural SEC slatethis fall, OU will host Heupel’s Tennesseeteam. The Vols will visit Norman on Sept. 21 in what will officially be the Sooners’ first-ever conference game in the SEC.
Beyond being a milestone moment for Oklahoma’s program, it will mark a homecoming of sorts for Heupel, who spent two seasons playing quarterback for the Sooners and another nine on staff, including four as co-offensive coordinator.
