The Boston Red Sox minor league affiliates finished the month of May a combined 55-56 with their Triple-A affiliate the Worcester Red Sox going 14-14, their Double-A affiliate the Portland Sea Dogs going 14-15,
their High-A affiliate the Greenville Drive going 12-15, and Single-A the Salem Red Sox going 15-12. Two of their prospects took home Player of the Month awards starting with catcher Kyle Teel who is the 28th overall prospect and the Red Sox third-ranked prospect by ITD taking home Hitter of the Month for the Eastern League . Teel finished May with a slash line of .357/.443/.560 with a 1.003 OPS; he had eight doubles, three home runs, 22 RBI, 20 runs scored, 13 walks, and two stolen bases. The other was second baseman/outfielder Kristian Campbell who is playing at Greenville, and he finished May with a slash line of .371/.467/.663 with a 1.130 OPS; he had eight doubles, six home runs, 17 RBI, 20 runs scored, 16 walks, and two stolen bases.
The Red Sox got a steal with Teel who fell to them at the 14th overall pick in last season’s draft when they selected him out of the University of Virginia. He finished his college career playing in 177 games with a slash line of .343/.433/.547 with a .979 OPS; he had 48 doubles, four triples, 28 home runs, 155 RBI, 170 runs scored, 13 stolen bases, and 97 walks. He spent 2023 with the Red Sox rookie league team, High-A Greenville, and Portland playing in 26 games hitting .363 with a .977 OPS; he had six doubles, two home runs, 22 RBI, 15 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 21 walks. This season he’s played in 41 games hitting .302 with a .888 OPS; he has 11 doubles, six home runs, 35 RBI, 34 runs scored, three stolen bases, and 24 walks. Teel will likely be heading to Triple-A Worcester shortly
