After Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones declared the team would do anything this offseason to get back into Super Bowl contention, most around the league expected fireworks.
However, Dallas decided to largely stand pat in free agency though they did make some meaningful additions to the team via the 2024 NFL Draft.
Still, the Cowboys will enter the 2024 NFL season with largely the same roster intact which might not bode well for them considering the teams they’ll be competing with got better on paper.
One clear area of need the team had this offseason was at running back as they saw Tony Pollard walk in free agency to the Tennessee Titans.
Without Pollard to handle the bulk of carries, Dallas turned to an old friend in Ezekiel Elliott, who spent last season as the backup for the New England Patriots.
Chad Johnson believes the Cowboys didn’t invest in a quality running back because they knew they could get Elliott on the cheap, via “Nightcap.”
“I think they already had an idea about Ezekiel Elliott coming back, knowing that he was up in New England,” Johnson said. “They knew they could get Ezekiel Elliott for a lower price as opposed to Derrick Henry.”
