Pitcher Kirby Connell set a Tennessee program record for appearances.
Connell (3-0) appeared in his 105th game against the Tigers, breaking a previous record set by Redmond Walsh.
Friday’s appearance was Connell’s 12th in 2024. He pitched 1.2 innings and allowed two runs (both earned) and two hits, while recording three strikeouts, Connell also recorded his second save of the season.
Game No. 2 between the Vols and Tigers on Saturday is slated for 5:30 p.m. EDT and will be televised by SEC Network. Sunday’s series finale will take place at 3 p.m. EDT (SEC Network).
