The Vols
downed SEC rival Texas A&M 6-5 in the College World Series decider on Monday night in Omaha, and
after arriving back on campus on Tuesday afternoon,
Tony Vitello and his team headed to Gay Street for a parade followed by a celebration program in Market Square. Vitello, the beloved seventh-year head coach, joined the Voice of Tennessee Baseball
John Wilkerson for a question-and-answer session as the players on the stage and fans in the crowd basked in the glory of
the Vols winning a title in a major sport for the first time since
Pat Summitt’s eighth women’s basketball championship in 2008.
The Tennessee Baseball Championship Celebration program included a couple of highlight videos of the team’s run during a season that saw them win 60 games and sweep the SEC regular-season and tournament titles.
As Vitello grabbed a microphone, Tennessee played a video featuring a handful of his former players from recent past Vols teams congratulating him and his team on the triumph, and then the conversation between Wilkerson and Vitello began – here’s everything Vitello said.
