As New York Jets edge rusher Haason Reddick, 29, continues to hold out, the massive fines he’s already accrued will continue to soar. The trade request he submitted on Monday will not help.
At the time of writing, Reddick has built up a cumulative fine close to $1.5 million. Those come from: the 21 days of training camp he’s missed ($50,000 a day), $100,000 for missing minicamp, and is subject to $300,000 for missing the first five days of training camp.
The Jets season doesn’t start for nearly 25 days, meaning Reddick could be fined a further million dollars before he takes a single snap for the team. His base salary for the 2024 campaign is $14.25 million.

Reddick has been seeking a new contract that will pay him around $25 million annually, something Jets GM Joe Douglas has balked at. Upon hearing about the trade request, Douglas released a swift statement.

“We have informed Haason that we will not trade him, that he is expected to be here with his teammates, and that he will continue to be fined per the CBA if he does not report,” Douglas said. “Since the trade discussions back in March we have been clear, direct, and consistent with our position. Our focus will remain on the guys we have here as we prepare for the regular season.”
