On Monday news broke that FSU was hiring Tony White from Nebraska to be the Seminoles’ new defensive coordinator. The two will work to fix a defense that underperformed in 2024 and struggled to stop the run.
Knighton has only been a coach since 2019 but has experience in the NFL and college. He started his coaching career as Wagner’s defensive line coach before taking the same job with the Carolina Panthers in 2021. He then followed Matt Rhule to Nebraska in 2023.
The Hartford, Connecticut native had a seven-year NFL career, playing for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Denver Broncos, and Washington Commanders.
He was an effective recruiter for the Cornhuskers, being the primary or secondary recruiter on five four-star prospects. He also helped land five three-star prospects.
