There’s no questioning who the future of the Michigan Wolverines program is. When you pay a quarterback recruit like Bryce Underwood upwards of $12 million, he’s clearly the future, and most expect him to be the present as well. It appears that might not be the plan, at least initially.
Over the weekend, Michigan will be welcoming former UCF and Fresno State quarterback Mikey Keene to campus for a visit. The plan, as of now, is for the Wolverines to bring in a bridge quarterback and give Underwood time to develop. It’s uncertain if the plan is for the freshman to take over some time this season, or if he gets the full-time role in 2026.
Keene is a very interesting option for the Wolverines. He started his career with the Golden Knights, but opted to transfer to Fresno State after two seasons. During his four-year career, Keene has thrown 8,245 yards and 65 touchdowns. He has also rushed for another two scores on the ground, as well as completing nearly 68 percent of his passes.
Michigan isn’t, however, the only team to watch for Keene. He is also expected to take a visit to Ole Miss, which would be an interesting pairing with head coach Lane Kiffin. While Keene might not move the needle for some fans, he is an experienced signal caller that brings a strong floor to the table. The Wolverines feel like a perfect addition to the room for the short term.
