Playing quarterback at Oklahoma is one of the things many high school kids obsessed with the sport dream of. Sure, the day of Heisman quarterback after Heisman quarterback is a bit over, but being the guy at Oklahoma still means something. That’s why guys like Michael Hawkins are still in town despite bringing in a guy like John Mateer.
That’s why the Sooners were able to land three-star quarterback Jett Niu, who is much better on tape than his three-star rating suggests.
Niu, a quarterback from Lehi High School in Utah, has made a name for himself in the 2025 recruiting class. His choice to go to Oklahoma was also significantly swayed by Oklahoma’s new offensive coordinator, Ben Arbuckle, who Niu knew from when Arbuckle was at Washington State.
Standing at 6-foot-2, Niu has shown exceptional performance on the field throughout his high school career. In his junior year, he amassed 3,005 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. His senior season was equally impressive, with 2,857 yards and 29 touchdowns, leading his team to a 9-3 record and a playoff semifinal.
Niu’s recruitment journey included offers from various colleges like Arizona, Washington State, and Yale, reflecting both his athletic and academic abilities. With Oklahoma getting him, they were able to fill a void that showed up once one of their commits flipped to Florida State on signing day.
But, while all of his accolades are very impressive, there is one thing that is even more impressive that the stats don’t show you.
