The third baseman already rejected an offer from the Astros and Tigers looms as new destination
A new soap opera is being written in Major League Baseball’s offseason, and the protagonist is Alex Bregman, who is already a free agent, which has him on the radar of several teams, including the Houston Astros.
In fact, the Texas nine are in a major dilemma as they look to retain the third baseman, but what the player is asking for, through Scott Boras, his representative, could leave him out of the Astros’ plans.
Detroit roars and Bregman could join its ranks
According to Essentially Sports, Scott Boras does not look unfavorably on the Astros’ offer, and the Texans already have a rival who is interested in Bregman’s services, the Detroit Tigers, a team that is undergoing a major sporting restructuring.
Bregman is 30 years old, and in the Major Leagues that age is no longer a guarantee to achieve a multi-million dollar deal. Detroit has not disclosed its offer for Bregman, but with the arrival of coach AJ Hinch, the third baseman could consider leaving Houston.
The Astros hope Bregman will reconsider and remain with the Houston team, who are preparing a rotation that would see Isaac Paredes at second base and Jose Altuve in left field in case the third baseman considers not leaving the Texas team.
One factor that could influence Bregman’s decision is the fans, as in Houston the player is one of the most followed and the pressure from the fans to retain the third baseman is starting to be important
