ATHENS – On Wednesday, UGA Football Colbie Young reached a plea deal with the Solicitor’s Office in Athens-Clarke County on Wednesday, first reported by Marc Weiszer of the Athens Banner-Herald.
Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs football program have yet to release a statment on the agreement.
He has been under investigation in a domestic violence case involving a former girlfriend. Young was arrested in Athens on Oct. 8 after playing in the first five games of the season for Georgia. He transferred from Miami, and the 2024 season was his first as a Bulldog.
According to reports, Young’s attorney Kim Stephens has said that he pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct. Stephens also said that his charges of misdemeanor assault on an unborn child were dismissed.
Young received 12 months of probation, a $500 fine and must complete a family violence intervention program. His probation will end once he completes the program.

All of this opens the door for Young to return to play. Weeks after his arrest and suspension from the team, he returned to team activities and practice, but that was the extent of his return ahead of the postseason.
Young’s accuser eventually recanted her statements that she originally made, claiming that he had “picked her up and began to squeeze her torso and abdomen very hard.” The investigation still continued after this.
A decision has been made, and Young and the football program will be able to move forward with him as a part of the team if that is what all parties decide to do. Young accumulated 11 receptions for 149 yards and two touchdowns in his five games with the team last season.
Size and good hands are something that Georgia was missing from the wide receiver position in 2024, and his absence did not help the Bulldogs in that department. Georgia went out and signed two wide receivers in the transfer portal in Zechariah Branch and Noah Thomas, so it is a position that the program is attacking as a weakness.
