The Detroit Red Wings announced Monday that they have placed Patrick Kane on the injured reserve retroactive to January 21, 2025.
Just a few days ago, Kane was listed as day-to-day basis due to an upper-body injury, reported by Max Bultman of The Athletic.
In 42 games this season, the veteran winger has talied 11 goals and 19 assists to sit fourth in team scoring with 30 points.
Originally joining the Red Wings in November 2023 as an unrestricted free agent, the future Hall of Famer headed to Detroit following a 16-year run with the Chicago Blackhawks, leading a dynasty team to three Stanley Cup wins. Including his short stint with the New York Rangers, Kane has totalled 1,272 career contests in which he has registered 482 goals with 832 assists for 1,314 points, making him the second-highest scoring American-born player of all-time and only 61 points shy of surpassing former Red Wings forward Mike Modano for the top spot.
Kane also captured the Conn Smythe Trophy during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs when he put up 19 points through 23 appearances to guide the Blackhawks to their second championship in four years. In all, Kane has neared point-per-game production in the postseason, tallying 53 goals and 85 assists through 143 playoff outings.
Per PuckPedia, Kane carries a one-year, bonus-laden contract that has a $4-million annual average value plus an additional $ 2.5 million in performance bonuses, which will also count against the salary cap should Kane achieve them. The 36-year-old is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent in the coming offseason.
On another note, the Red Wings also announced that they have signed Dominik Shine to a two-year contract. The longtime Grand Rapids Griffins forward has tallied 32 points this season in the AHL.
