Marc-Andre Fleury will always be a part of the Chicago Blackhawks history as he started 45 games for them in 2021-22. It wasn’t a great season for Chicago, but Fleury still played well.
The legend set an NHL record with a shutout in his previous game against the Montreal Canadiens. It was his last game in his home province before he retires at the end of the season and Fleury made it a memorable one.
Fleury is the first goalie in NHL history to record a shutout at 19 years old also at 40 years old. He turned 40 just over two months ago and was one of the rare goalies to play in the NHL at such a young age.
It wasn’t a huge save count (19) in his first shutout at age 40, but it was against a team in the playoff hunt and it’s a shutout nonetheless. With Filip Gustavsson struggling for the Minnesota Wild lately, Fleury has seen more starts and could very well put up another shutout this season.
In his 21 year career, Fleury has never failed to record a shutout in a season, so he continues that amazing streak by shutting the door against the Canadiens.
