Kentucky drops another spot in the coaches poll after losing to Auburn
It seems as if every time the Kentucky Wildcats basketball team gets a win, they immediately follow it with a loss. That’s what happened last week, as they got an thrilling win over Oklahoma, but then found themselves on the wrong end of a blowout against Auburn.

The result of the week’s play is that the Wildcats continued their downward trajectory in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll. After falling to 23rd last week, they’re down another spot to 24th this week.

Kentucky is the seventh, and final, team in the top 25 from the SEC. Three more teams received votes, however. The Auburn Tigers continue to lead the way, followed by the Tennessee Volunteers and Florida Gators in the top five. The Alabama Crimson Tide stayed in the top ten, coming in at number eight.

The biggest SEC fall this week came from the Texas A&M Aggies, who dropped ten spots to number 21. Overall, it was a tough week for the conference. Auburn stayed at number one and Tennessee gained a spot. Every other team fell.

The final week of the regular season is here, then comes the SEC Tournament. Everyone will be trying to end the season on a high note.

Kentucky coach Mark Pope talks to his players during a timeout – Dr. Michael Huang, Kentucky Sports Radio

After a solid win over Vanderbilt and a loss at Alabama, Kentucky didn’t move too much in the polls. In fact, the Cats didn’t move at all in the AP Poll, staying put at No. 17. They’re down two spots to No. 23 in the Coaches Poll.

Auburn, Saturday’s opponent at Rupp Arena, remains the No. 1 team in the land in both polls, one of four SEC teams in the top ten, eight overall. Duke took Florida’s spot at No. 2, bumping the Gators to No. 3. Tennessee is up to No. 5, while Alabama fell a few spots to No. 6. Texas A&M fell out of the top ten after losses to Mississippi State and Tennessee. Missouri is No. 14 and Mississippi State is No. 24. Ole Miss dropped out.

Outside of the SEC, Rick Pitino’s St. John’s squad is up to No. 7 after beating UConn yesterday. They’re just ahead of Michigan State, which jumped six spots to No. 8. Louisville is up six spots to No. 19. Kansas dropped out after losses to Utah and BYU, ending the Jayhawks’ run of 80 straight weeks in the AP Top 25.
