Colbie Young’s legal situation hung over the team last season when the Bulldogs were without the 6-foot-3, 215-pound Miami transfer for the final nine games of the season.
Kirby Smart addressed Young’s status going forward for the first time since the senior reached a plea deal Jan. 29 on the domestic violence case involving a former girlfriend.
Young plead no contest to a disorderly conduct charge. A misdemeanor charge of simple battery was amended to the disorderly conduct and a charge of misdemeanor assault on an unborn child was dismissed.
Colbie is with us,” Smart said Tuesday. “He’s going to be practicing with us. He’s cleared.”
Smart did not comment more when asked if that meant Young would be cleared when the Bulldogs play their first game.
Young had 11 catches for 149 yards and 2 touchdowns in five games for Georgia last season after totaling 79 catches for 930 yards and 10 touchdowns in two seasons at Miami. He played at Miami in 2022 and 2023 after spending the 2021 season at Lackawanna College in Scranton, Pa.
