Sam Landry injury update: OU softball pitcher expected to return for Sooners vs Tulsa
NORMAN — OU softball coach Patty Gasso said pitcher Sam Landry would pitch Wednesday at Tulsa and as long as there are no setbacks, Landry will throw at Arkansas this weekend as well.
“She threw today and was frustrated because she wanted more and we shut her down,” Gasso said after Tuesday’s practice. “You’ll see her on the mound tomorrow. I think that should be enough to have her ready for the weekend.”
The top-ranked Sooners (22-0, 3-0 SEC) take on the Golden Hurricane at 5 p.m. Wednesday before a three-game weekend series at Arkansas.
Landry (5-0, 1.47 ERA) missed last weekend’s series against South Carolina due to injury. Outside of freshman Audrey Lowry, OU’s pitching staff struggled against the Gamecocks.
The Sooners still pulled out a sweep, winning a pair of 10-9 games before Lowry went the distance in a complete-game 2-1 victory in the finale Sunday.
Since allowing five runs in 5 ⅔ innings in her OU debut on opening day, Landry has been excellent, with a 0.51 ERA over her last seven appearances.
The Louisiana transfer has 54 strikeouts — twice as many as any other pitcher on the staff.
