Baylor University is mourning the loss of legendary quarterback J.J. Joe, who passed away on February 25, 2025, at the age of 54 from an apparent heart attack.
J.J. Joe was a standout quarterback for the Baylor Bears from 1990 to 1993, leading the team to back-to-back bowl appearances. He amassed 5,995 passing yards over 44 games, making him the fifth-highest passing leader in school history. His average of 17.3 yards per completion remains a program record.
Beyond his on-field achievements, Joe was a three-time Academic All-American, reflecting his dedication to excellence both athletically and academically. His contributions to Baylor football were further recognized with his induction into the Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame in 2006.
After his playing career, Joe continued to influence the Baylor community as a color analyst for the Baylor football radio broadcast team, a role he held for 21 seasons alongside “Voice of the Bears” John Morris.
His passing leaves a significant void in the Baylor community. As a former player, broadcaster, and mentor, Joe’s legacy is deeply intertwined with Baylor football.
