The Missouri Tigers have added another familiar name to their basketball program, as Jevon Porter announced his commitment to Mizzou via the transfer portal. The 6-foot-11 forward, who spent the past two seasons at Pepperdine, is the fifth member of the Porter family to play basketball at the University of Missouri, continuing a deep-rooted legacy in Columbia.
Porter, a skilled big man with versatility on both ends of the court, averaged 7.3 points and 4.9 rebounds per game last season for the Waves. His decision to transfer brings him closer to home, as he played high school basketball in Columbia at Father Tolton Catholic, the same school where his older brothers also made a name for themselves.
Jevon follows in the footsteps of his brothers Michael Porter Jr., Jontay Porter, Coban Porter, and his sister, Bri Porter, all of whom have donned the black and gold. Michael and Jontay were standout players at Mizzou, with Michael now in the NBA with the Denver Nuggets.
Mizzou head coach Dennis Gates continues to add depth and talent through the transfer portal, and Porter’s size and skill set will provide valuable frontcourt help. His arrival bolsters a roster looking to improve in SEC competition next season.
