Veteran forward Patrick Maroon has officially announced his intention to retire from professional hockey at the conclusion of the current NHL season. The 36-year-old made the announcement on March 22, 2025, prior to the Blackhawks’ game against the St. Louis Blues, his hometown team and the franchise with which he won his first Stanley Cup in 2019.

Maroon’s career is highlighted by three consecutive Stanley Cup championships: with the Blues in 2019, followed by back-to-back titles with the Tampa Bay Lightning in 2020 and 2021. This achievement places him among a select group of players who have won three straight Cups with two different teams.

Drafted by the Philadelphia Flyers in the sixth round of the 2007 NHL Draft, Maroon has amassed 320 points (125 goals, 195 assists) and 1,071 penalty minutes over 14 NHL seasons. His postseason contributions include 23 goals and 30 assists in 163 playoff games.

Reflecting on his decision, Maroon stated, “Sometimes, you’ve got to give up everything you … . I just know it’s time for me … .” His family was present during the announcement, underscoring the personal significance of this career transition.

Maroon’s retirement marks the end of a notable chapter in NHL history, as he leaves behind a legacy of perseverance, leadership, and championship success.
