The Chicago Blackhawks have signed a few of their NCAA prospects following their departure from the NCAA Tournament. The latest is forward Aidan Thompson of Denver.
Thompson signed his two-year entry-level contract, which kicks in next season. He also signed an ATO to play the rest of this season with the Rockford IceHogs
Of course, Denver just suffered a double overtime heartbreaker at the hands of Western Michigan in the Frozen Four Semi-Finals. Thompson and his teammates fell short of a chance to repeat as National Champions.
Thompson was a third-round pick (90th overall) in the 2022 NHL Draft. He had a breakout year in 2024-25, his junior year at Denver, as he scored 21 goals and 34 assists for 55 points in 44 games. These 55 points were second in the nation.
One of those goals came in their final game against WMU. It was Denver’s first goal after they went down 2-0. Eventually, they tied it before that 2OT fall.
Thompson didn’t only step up offensively in 2024-25, either. He also took on a leadership role with Denver this year as their alternate captain. As he turns pro, that ability to lead will help him.
Kyle Davidson must love the development curve that this player has experienced. Now, it’s about getting him to Rockford to try and help them make a run in the Calder Cup Playoffs. His clutch gene, which he displayed in Denver, could be of good use to them.
Thompson will surely make his NHL debut in 2025-26. He earned this chance to turn pro with a bright future ahead.
