After a historic college career, LSU star Angel Reese shocked fans with her decision to spend a year as a coaching intern with head coach Kim Mulkey before officially declaring for the WNBA Draft. Reese, who led the Tigers to a national title and was named NCAA Tournament Most Outstanding Player, announced the news in an emotional post on social media. “This school, this team, these fans—they made me who I am today. I’m not done with LSU,” she said. Reese will assist with everything from player development to recruiting, while also helping to guide the next generation of LSU stars. “Angel’s an extension of our coaching staff already,” Mulkey said. “Her experience and leadership will be invaluable.” The 6’3” forward’s decision stunned fans, who expected her to immediately enter the professional ranks, but Reese explained she wanted to give back to the LSU program that shaped her. Teammate Flau’jae Johnson, who’s expected to lead the team next year, said, “Angel’s leadership didn’t end with the buzzer. She’s our next coach.” Reese’s internship is set to begin immediately after the WNBA Draft, making her the youngest coach in LSU history. Fans can’t wait to see what’s next.
