A Kansas State football defensive back transfer visited Missouri State on Thursday and had a trip to Massachusetts scheduled for Sunday.
The flight to UMass won’t be needed.
Jordan Dunbar, a 6-foot corner with Conference USA accolades, has committed to play for Ryan Beard and the Bears, he confirmed to the News-Leader.
Dunbar spent this past season at Kansas State following four years at Rice. He started every game for the Owls in 2021 and 2022, earning All-Freshman CUSA honors in 2021 and All-CUSA honorable mention laurels the following year. He redshirted in 2020 and 2023 and will have one season of eligibility with the Bears.
During the 2022 season, he made 25 tackles and had 10 pass-breakups, which tied for ninth in Conference USA.
At Kansas State, Dunbar was a reserve corner and played special teams. He played 16 snaps and made two tackles and a pass breakup against Oklahoma State.
Dunbar played his high school ball at Iona Prep in Syracuse, New York, where he was a three-star prospect.
After the spring season, Beard, MSU’s head coach, teased that the Bears would likely be in the market for cornerback help. The Bears had an overhaul at the position, with three starters entering the transfer portal following last season. Dunbar will add competition to the group and challenge for a starting role.
