REPORT: Kansas City Chiefs HC Andy Reid Reveals BJ Thompson Update
The Kansas City Chiefs started their Rookie Minicamp with a message from head coach Andy Reid, who revealed that B.J. Thompson has been officially released from the team. Thompson has been on the Non-Football Injury/Illness list since last June after suffering a cardiac arrest as a result of a seizure which he suffered during a team meeting. Reid announced Thompson’s release but also showed optimism that the player’s career has not exactly ended.
B.J. Thompson has been a part of the Kansas City Chiefs team since 2023 after the team selected him as the 166th pick in the fifth round of the NFL draft. Before stepping foot into the league, the defensive end split his college football career between the Baylor Bears and the Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks. In his rookie season for the team, the defensive end managed two solo tackles for the team.
Thompson was not the only one who was released by the Kansas City Chiefs. The team also revealed that David Lynch, linebacker, was also released from the team. The releases of these players constitute several offseason moves that the Kansas City Chiefs have undertaken this year.
The Kansas City Chiefs are hoping to improve their performance for the 2025 NFL season through their offseason moves. In the 2024 NFL season, the Chiefs were hoping for a three-peat in the Super Bowl and finished at the top of the AFC West with a whopping 15 wins. The Chiefs made it to the Super Bowl and lost against the Philadelphia Eagles with a 40-22 final score, dashing their dreams of a three-peat.
