Kamauryn Morgan didn’t need long to turn heads in Waco. Standing 6-foot-4 with a wingspan that seems to stretch across the field, the freshman defensive end has already made a serious impact at Baylor practices. While most first-year players spend their spring learning the system and adjusting to the speed, Morgan was doing something different: dominating. Coaches called him “unblockable” during pass rush drills, and several veteran offensive linemen admitted privately that his first step is “just different.” That kind of raw explosiveness, combined with a hunger to improve, makes Morgan one of the most intriguing young defenders in the Big 12. Recruited heavily by SEC programs, he chose Baylor for one reason—opportunity. “They told me if I’m ready, I’ll play. That’s all I needed to hear,” Morgan said. Now, Baylor’s retooled defensive front may be building around him. Defensive coordinator Matthew Powledge has hinted at packages designed to maximize Morgan’s edge pressure, and fans are already buzzing about the potential for a breakout year. With the Bears looking to bounce back from a frustrating 2024 campaign, Morgan could be the catalyst they’ve desperately needed. And if he delivers early, don’t be surprised if NFL scouts start circling.
