Guy Carbonneau was the head coach of the Montreal Canadiens from 2006 to 2009. He was fired on March 9, 2009, and replaced by Bob Gainey. Carbonneau also served as an NHL player and executive before and after his time coaching the Canadiens.

Here’s a more detailed look at his time with the Canadiens:
    • Coaching Career:
Carbonneau was hired as head coach in 2006. His coaching tenure was relatively short, ending with his firing in 2009.

    • Reasons for Firing:
Bob Gainey, who was also the general manager at the time, fired Carbonneau, citing the team’s lack of emotional engagement and failure to play to their full potential. The Canadiens had a 35-24-7 record at the time, but had lost five of their last seven games.

    • Success as a Player:
Before coaching, Carbonneau had a successful NHL career, playing for the Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, and Dallas Stars. He won three Stanley Cups with the Canadiens (1986, 1993) and Dallas (1999).

    • Post-Coaching Career:
After being fired as coach, Carbonneau transitioned to a role as a color commentator for Hockey Night in Canada.

    • Current Role:
He is currently the coach of 3ICE Dallas.
