A key recruiting domino fell for the Tennessee Vols on Thursday evening.
2026 four-star edge rusher Dre Quinn decommitted from the Clemson Tigers on Thursday, less than two weeks after taking an unofficial visit to Tennessee.
Quinn, 6-foot-4/228 lbs from Buford, GA, is rated in 247Sports’ composite rankings as the No. 35 edge rusher in the nation and the No. 42 player in the state of Georgia.
Tennessee will face stiff competition for Dre Quinn
The Vols are very much in the mix to land Quinn, but it’s far from a certainty that the four-star edge rusher will will commit to Tennessee.
In fact, Rivals.com’s Steve Wiltfong predicted on Thursday evening that the Texas Longhorns will be the program that lands Quinn.
After talking to a source with knowledge of the recruitment I’ve logged a prediction in favor of the Burnt Orange,” wrote Wiltfong.
While that’s obviously not the news that Vols fans want to hear, it doesn’t mean that it’s a foregone conclusion that Quinn will land with Texas. Recruiting is as fluid as ever in the NIL era. Things can change quickly. And Quinn has acknowledged that he likes Tennessee a lot.
“I like Tennessee. Their defense plays fast and aggressive, and they have a great atmosphere,” said Quinn said to On3.
According to 247Sports, Quinn will be in Starkville this weekend for the showdown between Mississippi State and Tennessee.
If the Vols look dominant against Mississippi State, it would certainly give Tennessee a boost in the battle for Quinn.
Georgia Tech and Ohio State are also in the mix for talented edge rusher.
