A familiar name is now on the market for the Phoenix Suns.
ESPN NBA insider Adrian Wojnarowski reported the Memphis Grizzlies are waiving center Bismack Biyombo.
“The Grizzlies are waiving center Bismack Biyombo, sources tell ESPN. He made a good impact with franchise and could be brought back again. Memphis is expected to add another big on a newly available two-way contract.” he wrote on Twitter/X.
Biyombo started 27 of the 30 games he was featured in, averaging 5.2 points and 6.4 rebounds per night.
While his offensive prowess doesn’t exactly match top-flight players at his position, Biyombo is notorious for his physical play and ability to protect the rim.
Phoenix has been searching for a strong No. 2 behind Jusuf Nurkic. Drew Eubanks has certainly cooled off after his hot start with the team. Udoka Azubuike has played well often times when given the opportunity, though he is on a two-way contract and is capped in his appearances unless the team signs him to a regular deal ahead of the postseason.
We’ll see if the Suns feel like a reunion is necessary. Phoenix is 19-18 on the season thus far.
Biyombo – 31 – initially signed with Memphis back in November after not being brought back by Phoenix last offseason. The Grizzlies signed Biyombo to help fill the void of previous center Steven Adams, who was lost for the season due to a severe knee injury.
