Troy Polamalu praises Pittsburgh Steelers’ TJ Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Heyward as ‘generational’
Legendary Steelers linebacker Troy Polamalu showed up to the Chipped Ham and Football podcast by Pittsburgh Post-Gazette’s Brian Batko and talked about everything Steelers.
Depending on who you ask, the Pittsburgh Steelers are either quite a ways away or only a few key players short of making the Super Bowl.
While the offense will still need plenty of work as the Steelers are looking to transform the team in 2024, Mike Tomlin has always made it a point to make the defense one of the team’s strongest points. While they struggled to keep offenses out for much of 2023, they have some of the most talented defenders in the league
Oh yeah, absolutely,” Polamalu answered when asked if Watt could play on the Steelers teams he did. “First, I think it’s important to say that I’m not a stakeholder in this, I’m just proud to be a member of this team. TJ’s incredible, Minkah [Fitzpatrick]’s incredible, Cam [Heyward], these guys are generational players.
The fact that the three got such high praise from a Hall of Famer like Polamalu is nothing short of impressive. The two-time Super Bowl champ knows what he’s talking about when it comes to playing defense, and to say that about the three says a lot about their quality.
TJ Watt was an unstoppable force for the Steelers last season, sacking the QB an incredible 19 times while also making 48 tackles, 19 TFLs, and one interception.
While Fitzpatrick didn’t make a single interception in the ten games he started, he did complete 43 solo tackles.
Heyward has been a solid rock for the Steelers defense over the years, and he’s continuously making his presence felt with 25 solo tackles and 2.0 sacks.
He was asked if some of the current Steelers players could play with his era. He immediately singled out TJ Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick, and Cameron Heyward as outstanding players who would dominate in the NFL regardless of their era.
