Pro Bowl running back Saquon Barkley decided to leave the New York Giants after six and join their division rivals, the Philadelphia Eagles. The move caused quite a stir and caused Barkley to engage in a war of words with Giants’ legend Tiki Barber.
When the news about Barkley signing with the Eagles broke out, Barber jokingly said that Barkley is “dead to me” during his appearance on the WFAN’s Evan & Tiki show.
He’s dead to us now. He’s dead to us. You’re dead to us, Saquon. Good luck. You’re dead to me,” said Barber.
Although it was obvious that Barber wasn’t serious when he made his comments, they still didn’t sit well with Barkley.
“You been a hater since I got to New York … and all the “Dead to me” talk don’t smile in my face when you see me,” Barkley wrote on X.
The exchange between Barber and Barkley soon spread across social media and even caused Baltimore Ravens’ star quarterback Lamar Jackson to playfully chime in. Jackson retweeted a post about his former Ravens’ teammate Geno Stone signing with division rivals Cincinnati Bengals and wrote that Stone is “dead to us” and “dead to me.”
During his six years with the Giants, Saquon Barkley made two Pro Bowls and rushed for 5,211 yards, placing him fourth on the franchise’s all-time rushing list. Barkley reportedly agreed to a three-year, $37.5 million deal with the Eagles.
Former running back himself, Tiki Barber spent all of his 10 years as a pro with the Giants. He is a member of the New York Giants Ring of Honor and is at the top of the franchise’s all-time rushing list with 10,449 career yards on the ground.
