BOWLING GREEN, Ky.- A Florida newspaper is reporting the death of a former Western Kentucky University football player. According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune, Cody Hughes died Monday. Hughes played offensive line for the Hilltoppers from 2006-2009 and served as a team captain. Hughes had recently been one of the coaches for the Sarasota, Fl. High School football team. Prior to that, according to his Linkedin page, Hughes was an instructor at South Warren High School. The Herald Tribune article does not list a cause of death.

The time when it’s reasonable to fire a head coach during the season seems to keep moving up. We had one fired after five games this season, and it seems like others could happen before Thanksgiving.
