ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels is expected to play for the Washington Commanders in their first preseason game Saturday at the New York Jets. Coach Dan Quinn confirmed Sunday that Daniels will be playing. He did not say if Daniels would start or how much the No. 2 pick would play. “I just love playing football, so I’m happy about it,” Daniels said. “I mean, I always knew I was going to play. At least I have the opportunity to go out there and play, so I’m excited for it.” The 2023 Heisman Trophy winner out of…
Tennessee resumed fall camp on Sunday morning with its fourth practice and second in shells (helmets and shoulder pads). The Vols were off on Friday after completing their first two days of the preseason, and then resumed on Saturday to begin a stretch of three consecutive practices that will last through Monday, before another off day on Tuesday. UT began practice inside of the Anderson Training Center due to rain in the Knoxville area prior to moving outside to conclude the day once the sun popped out. No players or coaches are scheduled to meet with the media following practice.…
The New York Yankees managed to make one big addition at the MLB trade deadline, acquiring All-Star hitter Jazz Chisholm Jr. It came without any of the Yankees top prospects having to be moved, but there might be a reason behind that. New York made it pretty clear to teams ahead of the MLB trade deadline that it didn’t want to trade outfielder Jasson Dominguez. Likewise, outfield prospect Spencer Jones was considered to be off the table outside of deals for a perennial All-Star with multiple seasons of contract control. When the Phoenix Suns drafted Devin Bookerback in 2015, the franchise was at one of their lowest points. Because of the lack of talent and bad management, they hadn’t been to the playoffs in the last five years. And things did not get any better once Booker arrived, as they missed the postseason for five more years. However, the four-time All-Star does not regret the experience and those rough days as he revealed a shocking ‘tough love moment’ he shared with veteran leader PJ Tucker during his rookie year.
The WNBA is close to its halfway point in the season and will resume play on August 15 after the Olympics have concluded. The break provides an excellent opportunity to assess midseason awards and who is standing out so far in the 2024 season. Some awards, like MVP, are clear-cut, but the majority are contested races to watch closely in the second half of the season. Predicting the 2024 WNBA awards MVP: A’ja Wilson, Las Vegas Aces A’ja Wilson’s MVP is currently the easiest award to pick; this would be her third MVP trophy. Wilson is putting up unprecedented numbers…
Serena Williams in the front now as Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz play for Olympic gold The gold-medal match in men’s singles at the Paris Olympics featured players with a combined 28 Grand Slam singles titles. But those weren’t the only majors represented in the building. Not by a long shot. By our count there were at least twenty-four more inside Court Philippe-Chatrier, as 23-time Slam champ Serena Williams watched Novak Djokovic (24 majors) face Carlos Alcaraz (four majors) from the front row. The 2012 singles gold medalist—who helped carry the Olympic torch a few days ago—sat next to Thomas Bach,…
Did you know that Bentonville, Arkansas is home to the U.S. Mountain Bike National Team? Some of the National Team members are racing in the 2024 Paris Olympics, how cool is that? According to the director of communications and public relations for USA Cycling Angeline Palermo, “The international mountain bike race courses are getting harder and harder. That’s why skills camps in Bentonville and Bella Vista areas are crucial in helping athletes learn the necessary technical skills that are needed to compete at a high level.
Three years ago at Tokyo 2020, gymnastics superstar Simone Bilessparked a global conversation about mental health and sports. Over the past week at the Olympic Games Paris 2024, she’s put into practice the example that inspired so many millions across the globe. That’s included therapy sessions before two of her biggest competitions in France, the women’s team and all-around finals, with her U.S. based therapist up in the middle of the night to work with the 27-year-old. “I did see my therapist the other day…. We’re taking it day-by-day to see if I need extra therapy while I’m here, but…
The Chicago Cubs eccentric rookie made a huge mistake on Sunday, but his teammates and coaches had his back after the game. Though one of the Chicago Cubs rookie hasn’t had the easiest transition to the big leagues, it would be hard to describe him as boring. Unfortunately, the latest development in the career of Pete Crow-Armstrong was a negative one. In the top of the eighth inning during Saturday’s game against the St. Louis Cardinals, and with two outs on the board already, Nolan Arenado hit what looked like a routine fly ball out into shallow center field. Nico…
PARIS — After almost two weeks at the Paris Olympics, I’m convinced that handball is the greatest sport ever invented. It’s like ’80s-style NBA hoops played inside a rave. The most action you can possibly imagine squeezed into a 60-minute match. The best players might look like graceful ballerinas while flying in to score goals. But they better watch out; if they’re not careful, they could get thwacked in the throat. It’s like cardio mixed with combat sports. Like soccer — if I actually thought soccer was fun.
