Tony Vitello etched his name into Tennessee lore after leading the Vols to their maiden College World Series title on Monday. The coach also made a bold statement on whether he will continue at Tennessee amid rumors of taking up the job at Texas. When asked about the possibility of joining the University of Texas next season, Vitello spoke about how Tennessee approached him initially and the support he has received from the Vols faithful. “But Tennessee came calling, and I knew a little bit about it. I knew it had those ingredients. But I’ve been blown away by how…
When it comes to baseball in Tennessee, Tony Vitello is more than just a coach – he’s a game-changer. Since taking the reins in 2017, the Vols have soared, securing a third trip to the College World Series in just four seasons. Such accomplishments are not merely a marker of success, but also a harbinger of financial reward. As reported by WVLT, Vitello’s contract includes a base pay of $350,000 and “Supplemental Pay” totaling $1.5 million, connected to the University of Tennessee’s broadcast and consultation deals. With the Vols’ recent success, his earnings this year will be a minimum of…
What a weekend it was for Tennessee on the recruiting trail. The Volunteers landed a longtime target in four-star safety Lagonza Hayward on Saturday, then turned around and pulled off a flip of four-star tight end Da’Saahn Brame. The former Oregon commit swapped his green and yellow for the orange and white after another visit to Knoxville, and he’s going to bring Tennessee a level of athleticism we haven’t seen at the tight end spot in some time. Brame offers a 6-6, 235 pound frame — almost that of a jumbo-type receiver. Brame is the 102nd ranked prospect in the…
Tennessee baseball pitcher Tanner Franklin joined the Chatham Anglers as a pitcher in the Cape Cod Baseball League, a collegiate summer baseball league, and has been dominant on the mound this summer. The Cape Cod League is often considered the best summer league in the country for collegiate players and boasts some of the best and brightest future stars in college baseball.
Tennessee Vols head coach Tony Vitello uncharacteristically pushed the wrong button on Saturday and it cost UT in game one of the College World Series finals against the Texas A&M Aggies. The Vols never led on Saturday against the Aggies after falling behind 2-0 in the top of the first inning. It was that top of the first inning where Vitello made the mistake that cost the Volunteers and put Tennessee in a position where the program now has to win two straight games against the Aggies to win the College World Series.
Tennessee’s offensive dominance came to a screeching halt Thursday. After stringing together their best offensive performances the last few games, the Lady Volsscored only 14 points in each quarter against Alabama. Tennessee (14-8, 7-3 SEC) couldn’t rely on its defense and lost 72-56 to Alabama (19-6, 6-4) at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama Tennessee didn’t get the performances it’s used to – and needs – from seniors Rickea Jackson and Jewel Spear, who has been on a hot streak in SEC play. Jackson led the Lady Vols with 13 points and six rebounds, and Spear managed only five points. She added…
Free agent Tyus Jones, the market’s top remaining guard, has agreed on a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the Phoenix Suns, his agent, Kevin Bradbury of Lift Sports Management, told ESPN on Saturday. Jones is a massive addition for the Suns, who struggled without a true point guard last season. Jones, who averaged 12.0 points and 7.3 assists for the Washington Wizards in 2023-24, will get a chance to impact a Western Conference contender and potentially return to a more financially flush free agent market next summer.
