Just one year after a historic playoff run that culminated in losing in the NBA Finals to the Denver Nuggets , the Miami Heat are stuck in the dreaded purgatory of NBA mediocrity. The 2023-24 season was a lost cause in South Beach as injuries, inconsistent effort and a roster relatively devoid of talent could only muster 46 wins and the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference. The Heat’s season then ended in a first-round playoff loss to the eventual champion Boston Celtics . That five-game drubbing by Boston was emblematic of how Miami has fallen so far in…
It is an outlook that essentially proves warranted as the American backs up the bravado to seal the sprint double in the season finale at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest last summer. Lyles likes to talk and such chat has not gone unnoticed by another figure in the series, Britain’s Zharnel Hughes. While Lyles, as ever, has been big and brash all season long winning the double at the American trials, including matching his PB of 9.83seconds in the 100m, to set up the potential for a Budapest repeat at the Paris Olympics, Hughes is somewhat more underrated and…
Kemba Nelson was in excellent form at World Continental Challenge competition in Switzerland. She was appointed an Alternate Person (AP) Reserve by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) to the women’s 4×100-meter relay squad to the Olympic Games in Paris. Nelson tied her season-best time of 11.04 seconds to finish third in the women’s 100-meter race at the LA Chaux-de Fonds Challenger meet. Nelson placed fifth in the same event at the National Championships. Mujinga Kambundji of Switzerland won the event in a meet record time of 10.90 seconds, besting her colleague Salome Kora’s personal defeating time of 10.95 seconds…

This year’s edition of the MLB Draft has come and gone during the All-Star break. The Orioles had a total of 21 selections over the draft’s 20 rounds, starting with first round pick Vance Honeycutt and going all the way down to 20th round pick Evan Yates. The next task is to sign these guys. This will play out from now through the signing deadline on August 1.Although there have been “sign every player” draft classes in Mike Elias’s tenure, the team had a few unsigned players in 2022 and 2023. I expect that to be the case again with…
Kamilla Cardoso is no stranger to playing big roles on high-level teams. Cardoso was instrumental in helping the South Carolina women’s basketball team go undefeated and win a national championship during the 2023-24 season. Cardoso now finds herself deep against elite WNBAcompetition as a Chicago Sky rookie. Yet, head coach Teresa Weatherspoon noted Cardoso’s impact with a crucial description.
In some parts of the country with heavy traffic or a lot to do in the city, sporting events can take a backseat or be places that no one is in a rush to get to, like in Los Angeles and Miami. With that being the case, the stands in places like Crypto.com Arena and Kaseya Center might not be packed to the brim as some would expect when games get underway for the Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and Miami Heat.

Not Like Us” has become an anthem that’s inescapable at this point, and ubiquitous in pop culture as it returns to the top of the Billboard Hot 100. But not everyone is thrilled to hear Kendrick Lamar’s Drake diss track everywhere — including Steph Curry. Following USA Basketball’s dominant 105-79 exhibition victory over Nikola Jokic and Serbia on Wednesday (July 17), the arena DJ in Abu Dhabi bumped the Mustard-produced banger, and the Golden State Warriors superstar was caught voicing his frustration. “Damn with this song. It’s not the only song in America,” Curry pleaded. LeBron James pushed back as…
The 31-year-old relief pitcher has endured a “long journey” to make his MLB debut, he told the league’s website on Friday after he was called up by the Boston Red Sox, becoming the franchise’s oldest player to make his Majors debut in the US since 1947. A series of injuries had derailed the Booser’s career almost from the very start, beginning with a broken femur from playing football and a broken vertebra from lifting weights in high school. Then, in his freshman year at Oregon State, he underwent a Tommy John surgery, wiping out his college career as he…
