Volunteers have been trying to salvage scores of young trees that were flattened in a public park. The community group Wild About Huntingdon planted 420 saplings in the town’s Sapley Park Playing Fields in mid-February. Steph James, who runs the group, said it was “sad and frustrating” that many of the trees had been destroyed. Huntingdonshire District Council, which provided the saplings, said it would continue to take care of the trees as they grew. The former Houston Texans and Baltimore Ravens receiver is set to be inducted into the SIAC Hall of Fame for his standout career at his alma mater Lane College. Jones joins Fort Valley State’s Dr. Kimberly Dugger, Tuskegee’s William King, Jr. and Frank Walker, Savannah State’s Harold “Bobo” Hubbard and Mabel Sanders, and Benedict’s Willie Washington in this year’s Hall of Fame class.
