The Philadelphia Eagles have a new backup quarterback. His name is Kenny Pickett and given who was available, he might not be the best man for the job. Pickett comes cheap. Former backup Marcus Mariota will make $6M as a Washington Commander next season while Pickett carries a $985K base salary with a $988K roster bonus. But sometimes you get what you pay for and for a little more money, Philadelphia could have chosen between these three options me Teams Quizzes Watch Newsletter Kenny Pickett Michael Longo/For USA Today Network / USA TODAY NETWORK Second-guessing the Eagles’ trade for Kenny Pickett By Bruce Ewing  | …

Sometimes the right decision is obvious to everyone but the one closest to it. Roughly 13 months ago, the Toronto Raptors faced something of a crossroads. They had an entire half-season of proof that their current group wasn’t good enough to contend. All-Star point guard Fred VanVleet was heading for unrestricted free agency, OG Anunoby and Pascal Siakam had 1.5 seasons left on their deals, and it looked like the highly-respected front office was going to pull the plug and enter a rebuild around promising second-year point guard Scottie Barnes VanVleet would have been a highly-desired option on the trade…

The Edmonton Oilers are “leading the charge” when it comes to signing Brock University goaltender Connor Ungar, according to Ben Steiner of CBC Sports. Ungar was named U Sports Rookie of the Year for the 2023-24 season after posting a .932 save percentage across 26 regular-season games and a .928 save percentage over six playoff games for the Badgers. The Calgary native led Brock to a 21-7-0 record this season, good for first place in the Ontario University Athletics West Division. The Badgers swept the Windsor Lancers in two games in the OUA quarter-finals but then got edged out in the…

The Indianapolis Colts are going into the regular season with an extremely young cornerback room, one that won’t be featuring one of their fifth-round picks from the 2023 NFL draft. In a mildly shocking move, the Colts wound up waiving fifth-round pick Darius Rush as a part of the moves to get the roster to 53 players before Tuesday’s deadline. Meanwhile, they opted to keep seventh-round pick Jaylon Jones. When asked what went into cutting Rush, general manager Chris Ballard’s answer was pretty simple. “That’s a good question, that was hard. Jaylon Jones,” Ballard said Wednesday of the reason that led the…

The Baltimore Ravens took a flyer on veteran Odell Beckham Jr. last season, paying him what amounted to $16 million for 35 catches, 535 yards and three touchdowns. But when you consider Beckham posted a career-best 16.1 yards per catch in the process, his season doesn’t look so bad. And the Pittsburgh Steelers could be on the hunt to add him to their ever-changing roster. Pittsburgh has already added wideout Van Jefferson as new general manager Omar Khan continues to overhaul the Steelers’ roster through free agency, and it seems the top wideout priority for Khan is former Bengal Tyler…
