It’s been over a decade since Doug Nussmeier was on the University of Alabama campus, but as we all know, the Crimson DNA stays in you forever. Nussmeier spent two years with Nick Saban and the Alabama Crimson Tide, serving as the offensive Coordinator and quarterbacks coach for the 2012 and 2013 seasons. He played a large role in the development of QB A.J. McCarron as he set the school record for passing TDs tin 2012 with 26 on the way to an Alabama national title.
Nussmeier then spent time with the Michigan Wolverines and Florida Gators before moving on to the NFL ranks, where he bounced around from Dallas to LA to Philadelphia. This past season, Nussmeier served as the Eagles quarterback coach and played a vital role in the growth of Jalen Hurts and the passing game on their way to a Super Bowl victory.
However, Nussmeier is back on the move as he followed former Eagles offensive coordinator and new Saints head coach Kellen Moore to New Orleans to take their OC position. It’s the first coordinator position he has held in the NFL, and he’s never been a head coach at any level. I do think Moore was an outstanding hire for the Saints, so I think Nussmeier find himself in a pretty appealing and exciting position in the Big Easy.
The Saints currently hold the No. 9 pick in the 2025 NFL draft, and many people are wondering if they could be players to move up and potentially draft a QB. But, with Alvin Kamara and Chris Olave on the roster, Nussmeier knows he will have weapons.
