ANN ARBOR – Although Michigan finished 7-5 in 2024, the program still possesses a championship culture – a community that team captain Max Bredeson is not ready to leave. Bredeson announced he will return for the 2025 season, giving the Wolverines a key leader for their revamped offense.
The fullback/tight end revealed his decision through an Instagram video montage with the caption “team 146 let’s do it,” ending speculation about his future that began after Michigan’s victory over Alabama in the ReliaQuest Bowl.
Despite modest receiving statistics of 10 catches for 121 yards in his career, Bredeson, a former walk-on and 2024 Burksworth Trophy finalist, has been instrumental in Michigan’s physical running game. According to head coach Sherrone Moore, his impact extends far beyond the box score:
“He’s the ultimate competitor, the ultimate leader… everything you want in a captain. He’s as physical as any player in college football. He impacts our team not just on the field, but off the field in huge ways, making sure the locker room is aligned in every single way.”
The decision comes after Bredeson played a crucial role in Michigan’s ReliaQuest victory. Bredeson credited Michigan’s culture as a major factor for his return:
“Sometimes, it gets tested… Sometimes, you really feel it kind of bending, and it goes right back to what it was. That’s how important culture is, and that’s when you really find out what it’s about.”
His return provides some continuity for a Michigan program looking to regroup and improve under Moore’s leadership.
